The Salvation Army has received $4,500 from the Food Lion Charitable Foundation to help support its summer feeding programs for local residents. The Salvation Army will use the gift to stock its food pantry.

“This gift could not have come at a better time for us. The need has been great and donations are normally down in the summer months. This will help a lot of families in Pitt County,’’ Chip Laughinghouse, public relations director for The Salvation Army, said.

The Food Lion contribution will go toward purchasing food for those in need through the Outreach ministry area of The Salvation Army.
