PINETOWN - Riverside High School's cross country teams earned a slew of awards at last week's Coastal Plains 1A Conference championship meet at Northside High School.
Briley Bickerstaff won the girls' race with a time of 19:33 - a new Riverside record. She also earned all-conference honors for placing in the top seven at the league meet and was named the conference's Female Runner of the Year.
Bickerstaff's teammate, Alyssa Roscoe, earned all-conference recognition after she placed fifth overall at 27:05.
Lady Knights' coach Mark Cagle was named Coach of the Year.
South Creek had one runner, Shykira Bowers, who was third overall at 24:36.
Pamlico County scored 15 points to win the team crown by placing seven runners in the top 11.
Northside's lone runner, Caroline Boyd, took second with a time of 22:31 - early two minutes behind Bickerstaff's winning time.
On the boys' side, Riverside placed third as a team with 59 points, trailing Pamlico County (28) and Northside (39).
However, the Knights - in addition to having two runners in the top 10 (Noah Nicholson was fourth in 19:07, while Stephen Eure was ninth in 20:27), two others showed much progression during the regular season.
Shane Griffin placed 13th overall with a personal-best time of 20:58, while Cole Baker was 16th overall with a personal-best time of 21:50.
Nicholson earned all-conference honors for placing in the top seven. He and Eure will join Bickerstaff at the regional championship meet.
In addition, Amaurion Smallwood placed 17th (22:18) and Dillon Taylor was 18th at 23:21.
Male winner Phillip Pipkin of Pamlico (18:26) was the conference's male runner of the year, while the Hurricanes' Aaron Caroon was named the coach of the year.
