ROBERSONVILLE – Riverside’s Peyton Lane was unhittable Friday night.

Lane fired a no-hitter with 12 strikeouts and just two walks as the Knights’ softball team defeated South Creek 14-0 in a five-inning, Coastal Plains 1A Conference game.

Riverside (7-4 overall and in the CPC) finished with 11 hits and scored three runs in the first inning, five in the second, two in the third and four in the fourth stanza against the Cougars, who made seven errors defensively.

“We had a good game offensively, but everything we did at the plate was overshadowed by the pitching performance of Peyton,” said RHS head coach Bob Lilley. “It was nice to see her establish a rhythm and keep the ball around the strike zone. She has had times this season where she has been inconsistent, so being able to see her compete at that level was awesome.”

Lane was also a factor at the plate for the Knights, going 3-for-3 with a walk.

Other offensive leaders for Riverside included Abbie Cargile (2-for-5, two stolen bases, RBI, four runs scored), Kaitlyn Hayes (2-3, three RBIs, two runs scored, sacrifice fly) and Katie Beach (2-3, run scored, two RBIs).

Riverside is scheduled to play at home today (April 26) at 5 p.m. against Cape Hatteras. The Knights will entertain Gates County at 6 p.m. on Tuesday (April 27) and will hold Senior Night at 6 p.m. Friday against Southside.
