Penco Products Inc., a North Carolina-based manufacturing company, is celebrating 150 years of growth and innovation throughout 2019.

Penco’s culture of dedicated service, quality metal lockers and storage products and commitment to continuous improvement has translated into the best fiscal year of business since its relocation from Pennsylvania to eastern North Carolina in 2001.

The journey began in 1869, when L. Lewis Sagendorph saw an opportunity to produce metal products. He named his bourgeoning business Penn Metal Corporation of Pennsylvania.

In the 1950s, the name was shortened to Penco Products, and the company successfully has navigated through technological advances, economic challenges and product enhancements as America’s longest-running manufacturer of steel lockers and shelving.

The key to the company’s longevity is hard work and dedication to staff, customers and the community, officials said.

Penco’s products ship from 10 warehouses throughout the United States and two in Canada. The East Coast manufacturing facility is in Hamilton and its headquarters are in Greenville.

Officials said that one of the core values of Penco is building and maintaining great relationships with the community and its people.

Several local leaders celebrated with Penco during the 150th Anniversary Gala in May. Among those were Pitt County District Attorney Faris Dixon, who reflected on the effect Penco has had in the local area.

Greenville Mayor P.J. Connelly shared congratulations via video, declaring May 4 to be Penco Products Appreciation Day in Greenville.
