A 26-year-old man with severe lacerations told police the wounds came from a bullet fired by a bail bondsman who was chasing him Friday afternoon, the Greenville Police Department reported Monday.

Department spokeswoman Kristen Hunter said officers were called to the area of 104 Concord Drive about 1:58 p.m. in reference to a scene security request for Greenville Fire-Rescue.

The initial information provided at the scene was that a bail bondsman pursued the man in a foot chase and the man injured his hand after jumping a barbed wire fence.

Officers later learned the bail bondsman, Ty’Shawn Williams, reportedly fired “a warning shot” into the air as he pursued the man.

The man claimed his injury was not from the barbed wire fence but from a gunshot graze and he was transported to the hospital for treatment. Hunter said it is still unclear what caused the injury.

Police recovered a .40-caliber shell casing at the scene. Williams was cited for discharging a firearm in the city limits.
