The Greenville Police Department has made an arrest in a fatal hit-and-run that occurred on New Year’s Day.
Dequan Jagodz Carney, 21, was arrested Tuesday in the death of Floyd Barrett, 53, of Greenville. Barrett was found lying in the middle of Hooker Road near West Arlington Boulevard shortly before 8 p.m.
It was determined Barrett had been operating a moped discovered at the scene that had been struck by a vehicle, the department reported.
Barrett was transported to Vidant Medical Center where he later died from his injuries, a news release said.
Carney, address not available, was driving a 2013 Kia Optima when he hit Barrett, police spokeswoman Kristen Hunter said Tuesday.
The Traffic Safety Unit was able to identify Carney through witness statements and a review of cameras in the area, she said.
Carney was cited for felony hit and run death, failure to report an accident, simple possession, possession of marijuana paraphernalia and no operator’s license.
He was released on a $35,000 secured bond, according to booking reports.
