A man trying to evade police was killed and another person was injured early Sunday after a crash on Fifth Street, the Greenville Police Department reported.

The wreck occurred about 1 a.m. after police located a vehicle displaying fictitious tags at the Citgo gas station near Fifth Street and Memorial Drive and attempted a traffic stop, a department news release said.

The driver, Jahmil Sensire-Hyman, 32, of Greenville, jumped the curb in the vehicle and continued east on Fifth Street, the department reported.

Minutes later officers discovered Hyman's vehicle had collided with another car at the intersection of West Fifth Street and Ford Street, the department reported.

Both drivers were trapped inside the vehicles. Hyman was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver, 34-year-old Pamela Marie Moore of Greenville, had to be extricated from her car by Greenville Fire-Rescue.

She was transported to Vidant Medical Center with what appear to be non life-threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
