The suspect in Monday’s four-vehicle collision at the intersection of Red Banks Road and Arlington Boulevard has been released from the hospital, the Greenville Police Department said in a news release.
Joel Anthony Barkman, 35, of Newport was charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, larceny of a motor vehicle, breaking and entering a motor vehicle, felony flee/elude, reckless driving to endanger, speeding, driving while license revoked, failure to stop at a red light, driving left of center, failure to maintain lane control, failure to yield and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, the release said.
Barkman stole a pickup truck at 2:10 p.m. on Monday from the Speedway on 500 N. Greene St. Officers followed the vehicle but were unable to stop it due to the high rate of speed and traffic volume, the release said.
Barkman caused a four-vehicle wreck at the intersection Arlington Boulevard and Red Banks Road at 2:14 p.m. He was not being pursued by police at the time of the wreck.
Two of the four individuals involved in the crash were transported to the hospital.

- 4200 block NC 33 West, Greenville, 10:30 p.m. July 30: woman robbed at gunpoint, iPhone valued at $1,000 stolen; case active.
