A Bethel man charged with driving while impaired crashed into a ditch, then hit a mailbox and a light pole, according to a State Highway Patrol crash report.

The crash took place at 2:04 a.m. on Feb. 1, near Alllpine-Taylor Road and U.S. 13.

According to the report, Demarcus Montrail Best, 25, of 1176 N.C. 11 North, was traveling west on Allpine-Taylor Road in a 2017 Toyota passenger car when he crossed the center line, ran off the road to the left and struck a mailbox and a ditch.

After impact with the ditch, Best struck a utility pole before his vehicle came to rest.

At the time of impact, Best was traveling 55 mph. His original traveling speed was 60 mph.

His vehicle sustained $10,000 in damages. Best was not injured.

He was charged with DWI and careless and reckless driving.

According to his court file, Best had red, glassy eyes, very slurred speech, was unsteady on his feet and had a strong odor of alcohol coming from his breath. He also was acting in an aggressive manner toward the trooper.

Twenty-four other people also were charged with driving while impaired, according to court records and law enforcement reports available between Jan. 19 and Feb. 2

  • Lee Arthur Atchison Jr., 37, of 4312 Joyner St., Ayden, was stopped on Feb. 2 by the Ayden Police Department. The time and location of stop was not available. Atchison had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath and red, glassy eyes. His blood alcohol level was unavailable.
  • Tia Cherelle Baker, 21, of 6836 Hassell Road, Robersonville, was stopped at 2:53 a.m. on Feb. 2 near Old Pactolus Road by the State Highway Patrol. She had red, glassy eyes. Her blood alcohol level was 0.14.
  • Travis Alexander Belisle, 30, of 1552 Hollow Drive, Apt. B, Greenville was stopped at 11:54 p.m. on Jan. 20 near N.C. 43 by the State Highway Patrol. He had red, glassy eyes, an odor of alcohol on his breath and refused a breath test. His blood alcohol level was unavailable.
  • Samuel Phillips Briggs, 21, of 400 S. Greene St., Apt. 205, Greenville, was stopped at 8:37 p.m. on Feb. 1 near 10th Street and Founder’s Drive by the East Carolina University Police Department. He was going 55 in a 35 mph zone and had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. He also admitted to drinking. His blood alcohol level was not available.
  • Robert Justin Caldwell, 32, of 862 Country Club Drive, Ayden, was stopped at 12:08 a.m. on Jan. 30 near Washington Street by the Ayden Police Department. He had red, glassy eyes, an odor of alcohol on his breath and slurred speech. His blood alcohol level was 0.10.
  • Lamar Jaquan Chance, 40, of 125 Trent Circle, Greenville, was stopped at 8:34 p.m. on Feb. 1 near U.S. 13 by the State Highway Patrol. He had slurred speech, red, glassy eyes, was observed swaying when standing and stated he was drinking. His blood alcohol level was unavailable.
  • Alfred Ray Coburn, 49, of 1760 Holly Springs Loop Road, Williamston, was stopped at 11:19 p.m. on Jan. 30 near Brown Road by the State Highway Patrol. He had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, slurred speech, red, glassy eyes and was unsteady on his feet.
  • Brandon Joel Donson, 33, of 2447 A. Bullock St., Winterville, was stopped at 12:29 p.m. on Jan. 29 near Milton Drive and Vernon White Road by the Winterville Police Department. He failed to dim his headlights and had a moderate odor of alcohol on his breath. He also had red, glossy eyes, watery eyes and admitted to drinking. His blood alcohol level was 0.11.
  • Caleb Evan Dula ,23, of 1640 Allen Road, Greenville, was stopped on Jan. 26 near Greenville Boulevard by The Greenville Police Department. The time of the stop was not available. He had red, glassy eyes, an odor of alcohol on his breath and was unsteady on his feet. His blood alcohol level was 0.22.
  • Shannon Elizabeth Ford, 30, of 108 Ridgewood Circle, Washington, was stopped at 2:09 p.m. on Jan. 23 near U.S. 264 by the State Highway Patrol. She had slurred speech, pinpoint pupils and was unsteady on her feet. She had a blood test done.
  • Angel Reanna Holley, 27, of 3145 Boardwalk Lane, Apt. 3, Greenville, was stopped Jan. 23 by the Greenville Police Department. Her blood alcohol level was 0.19. No further information was available.
  • Kelvin Randolph Jeffery, 53, of 1979 Briley Road, Greenville, was stopped at 12:41 p.m. on Feb. 2 near Barrus Construction Road by The State Highway Patrol. He had slurred speech, difficulty standing and red, glassy eyes. His blood alcohol level was 0.23.
  • Michael Gilbert Krawchuk, 54, of 6083 Marvin Taylor Road, Grifton, was stopped on Jan. 24 by the State Highway Patrol. He initially was stopped by a deputy for speeding and crossing the center line. He was charged with reckless driving and possession of marijuana and possession of marijuana paraphernalia up to

  • an ounce. He refused a breath test and had an extreme odor of alcohol on his breath. He also had slurred speech and was unsteady on his feet.
  • Joshua Allen Lodge, 26, of 953 Thomas St., Greenville, was stopped at 3:14 a.m. on Feb. 2 near Old River Road and Benjamin Drive by The Pitt County Sheriff’s Office. He crossed the center line. He also had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, red, glassy eyes, slurred speech and stated he had drank alcohol earlier. His blood alcohol level was unavailable.
  • Rafi Shakir Madu, 30, of 206 Gatling St., Williamston, was stopped at 11:57 a.m. on Feb. 1 near U.S. 264 Alternate by the State Highway Patrol. The time and location of stop was not available. He also was driving 72 in a 55 mph zone, had slurred speech and red, glassy eyes. He also had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. His blood alcohol level was unavailable.
  • Casey Dee Antoine Norfleet, 32, of 3311 Landmark St., Apt. 8, Greenville, was stopped at 11:15 p.m. on Jan. 24 near Ivy Road by the State Highway Patrol. He had red, glassy eyes and an odor of alcohol on his breath. His blood alcohol level was 0.27.
  • Eshan Manish Patel, 21, of 306 Minton Valley Lane, Cary, was stopped at 12:59 p.m. on Jan. 25 by the Greenville Police Department. No further details were available.
  • Kenzie Maurice Phillips, 26, of 810 Fire Station Road, Hookerton, was stopped at 2:38 a.m. on Jan. 26 near N.C. 11 by the Ayden Police Department. He had red, glassy eyes, an odor of alcohol on his breath and was unsteady on his feet. His blood alcohol level was 0.19.
  • Robert Blake Radford, 22, of 1383 N.C. 58 North, Snow Hill, was stopped at 9:26 p.m. on Jan. 25 near Old Pactolus Road by the State Highway Patrol. He had red, glassy eyes, a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, slurred speech and was unsteady on his feet. His blood alcohol level was 0.12.
  • George Terrell Sheppard, 34, of 206 W. Gum Road, Greenville, was stopped at 12:29 a.m. on Jan. 26 near Beaver Lodge Drive near Falkland by the State Highway Patrol. He had red, glassy eyes, an odor of alcohol on his breath and was unsteady on his feet. His blood alcohol level was 0.10.
  • Jeriki Nicole Trimble, 37, of 910 Bs Barbecue Road, Apt. A, Greenville, was stopped at 2:17 a.m. on Feb. 2 near N.C. 11 and Fire Tower Road by the Winterville Police Department. She increased her speed when the officer turned on his blue lights, had a strong odor of alcohol on her breath, had red, bloodshot, droopy eyes, slurred speech and was unsteady on her feet. She also admitted to drinking. Her blood alcohol level was unavailable.
  • Andrew Loren Vandruff, 36, of 1150 Catalpa Road, Greenville, was stopped at 12:42 a.m. on Jan. 24 near 10th Street by the State Highway Patrol. He was not wearing his seatbelt and had a blank stare. He also had red, glassy eyes, slurred speech, was swaying and had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. Vandruff also admitted to drinking. His blood alcohol level was not available.
  • Bradley James Watson, 19, of 4995 Giles Road, N.W., Acworth, Ga., was stopped at 2:04 a.m. on Jan. 26 near Stokestown-St.John’s Road, by the State Highway Patrol. He had red, glassy eyes and an odor of alcohol on his breath. His blood alcohol level was 0.16.
  • Sheritha Monchel Wilson, 33, of 700 W. 14th St. Apt. A, Greenville, was stopped at 11:51 p.m. on Jan. 25 near N.C. 33 and Belovir School Road by the State Highway Patrol. She also was charged with child abuse and had a four-year-old child in the vehicle. No further details were available.
