Blood donation center
The American Red Cross Donation Center, 700 Cromwell Drive, is open 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. today, Saturday and Sunday. It is also open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday. Blood donors are needed. Winterville Baptist Church, 2593 Church St., will sponsor a Chicken-on-a-Mission Fundraiser from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4-6 p.m. Saturday. The $8 meal will include a half chicken, potatoes, green beans, roll and dessert and drinks for those dining in. Dine in, take out and drive thru are all available. Proceeds will benefit local missions, such as building ramps for those who need them and meeting other needs. The event will include an auction of handmade items, wood crafts at quilts at 6:30 p.m.
Simpson Community Day
The Second Annual Simpson Community Day will be held from 3-7 p.m. Saturday at Simpson Community Park, 2708 Telfaire St., Simpson. The event will include food, fun and music. A Climate Action Rally will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Elm Street Park, 1055 S. Elm St. The event is sponsored by the Climate Action Summit 2019, 350.org and the Sierra Club.
Fraternity interest meeting

The Greater Greenville Quilt Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 27 and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 28 at First Christian Church, 2810 E. 14 St. Admission fee is $5. The quilt festival is two full days of fun, raffles, quilts, refreshments and more.
The Council on Aging, 4551, County Home Road will hold an "Oktoberfest" from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 28. The event will feature food, craft vendors, live entertainment and a cornhole tournament. GPO Night Out
The Greenville chapter of Girls Pint Out, a national non-profit agency, will host a charity and awareness-raising event from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Oct. 4 at Tapped650, 650 E. Fire Tower Road, Winterville. The group is partnering with the Greenville Chapter of Knitted Knockers, a group that provides, for free, special handmade breast prostheses for women who have undergone mastectomies or other procedures to the breast. The event will have a 50/50 style raffle for donations from many local community members. The nonprofit Lives of Purpose was recently formed to open Awaken Coffee Shop, which will employ adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
