East Carolina football has a vacancy to fill on its offensive coaching staff from running backs coach De’Rail Sims’ departure for an Atlantic Coast Conference school.
Louisville is set to hire Sims at the same position, an ECU source confirmed and as reported Wednesday by national college football writer Pete Thamel.
Sims led ECU’s running backs the last two seasons, including in 2020 with the standout freshman duo of Rahjai Harris and Keaton Mitchell. He also was with Pirate head coach Mike Houston at James Madison before Houston left JMU for ECU in December 2018.
Harris rushed for 624 yards in eight games last year and was named co-American Athletic Conference rookie of the year.
This vacancy comes after Houston already made a recent defensive change, parting with Byron Thweatt and replacing him with Sam Houston State D-Line coach Tim Daoust.
