WILLIAMSTON — The boys cross country team from Greene Central High School finished second overall in a nonconference meet Monday at Riverside High School.

The field was originally to include SouthWest Edgecombe, but the Cougars didn’t have enough runners to comprise a team this season.

The Rams were led by Owen Dyer, who finished third overall with a time of 22 minutes, 57 seconds. The top two times went to Riverside’s Noah Nicholson (20:35) and Stephen Eure (21:52).

Joe Henderson was the next GCHS male runner to complete the hilly, 3.1-mile course. He ended up sixth with a time of 24:23, trailing Shane Griffin (23:31) and Cole Baker (23:47) of the Knights.

Greene Central had three other male runners in the meet.

Jake Edmondson was 10th overall at 27:43, followed by Brady Anderson in 11th with a time of 27:44 and Jay Bennett in 13th place with a time of 38:33.

Riverside’s boys finished with 19 team points, while Greene Central had 36.

Greene Central had two girls compete in Monday’s meet.

Perla Martinez was second overall with a time of 27:49, trailing Riverside’s Briley Bickerstaff (20:45). Sydney Ramsey placed fourth in 31:39.

Greene Central joined South Lenoir for an Eastern Carolina 2A Conference meet Wednesday at Washington. The Rams’ next home meet is Monday (Dec. 7) against ECC foes Washington and Ayden-Grifton.
